Parents and caregivers all aim to properly install seats for car seat safety. However, it’s not an easy task! Installing a car seat has to be done properly to ensure the upmost safety of the child. Also, did you know that there is a variety of different car seats appropriate for age and size of the child? There are four main types of car seats and it’s very important that a child is placed or use it right. Our Toyota dealerships in Orlando wants you to better understand the car seat safety options so we have tried to break it down for you.
Rear-Facing Car Seats
The rear-facing car seat is meant to be used by newborns and toddlers. It’s the most important and safest car seat a child can be in during a collision. That is why it’s very important that it’s properly installed so if a collision does occur the seat is able to cradle and protect the baby. For car seat safety your child should not stop using the rear-facing car seat until it outgrows the weight and height requirements. There are multiple styles of rear-facing car seats that are convertible so it can last for a longer period of time.
Forward-Facing Car Seats
Once your child outgrows the requirements of the rear-facing car seat they should continue to use a car seat. The forward-facing car seat prevents the child from moving during collision. It has reinforcement harness and hooked with tethers for the ultimate car seat safety. Your child’s car seat safety they should not stop using the car seat until they have surpassed the weight and height requirement of the seat.
Only switch to the booster seats once your child has grown enough to exceed the weight and height requirements of forward-facing car seats. There are parents that choose to ignore the booster seat. The booster seat allows the seat belt to be properly placed on the child. If your child’s seat belt rests on stomach and sits on their neck, then your child should be using a booster seat.
Once the seat belt is properly positioned over the child’s upper thighs and across the chest then shoulder they will no longer need to use a booster seat!
