Are you planning a night full of frightful fun with your little ghouls and goblins this Halloween? Trick-or-treating is one of the main festivities for the big night, and here at our Orlando Toyota family of dealerships we want to ensure that you and your family stay as safe as possible when you head out. That’s why we’ve compiled some of our top tips for trick-or-treating safety when you’re behind the wheel on All Hallow’s Eve!
Tip #1: Stop with the distractions. Halloween night is one of the busiest nights of the year for foot traffic, especially if you’re in an urban or suburban area! This also goes for car traffic – more vehicles are out and about on Halloween because of trick-or-treating, parties, and other festivities going on in Orlando. That’s why we recommend putting a stop to distracted driving! Distracted driving qualifies as anything that takes your eyes off the road – this includes talking on or using the phone, putting on makeup or grooming, eating, playing with the radio, or talking to passengers. Keep your eyes on the road ahead of you and your hands on the wheel so you can quickly react to pedestrians and other cars!
Tip #2: Keep up with auto service. It’s important to keep up with Orlando Toyota service all year round, but especially so on the night when you’ll be out and about in the dark. You should ask our techs to check things like your tires, brakes, headlights, and wipers, which are all integral to a safe drive time and quicker reaction time when witches and werewolves cross your path! Schedule an appointment today to have your ride looked over from bumper to bumper.
Tip #3: Remember that you’ll be driving at night. It’s a lot different than driving in the daytime and requires more concentration and precision. You should always use your headlights, drive at the speed limit, and be prepared to come to sudden stops for pedestrians, vampires, animals, and zombies. Also, remember to keep your focus on the road (not distractions inside the car) and if you feel excessively tired, don’t try to power through – it slows your reaction time. Pull over to a safe spot for a nap or book a hotel to catch some zzz’s and put a dent in your Halloween candy!
Tip #4: Follow road rules. Road rules are there for a reason, and you should pay attention to them for your safety and the safety of others! This means going the speed limit (especially when a lot of pedestrians are around), and coming to complete stops at stop signs and stoplights. Our Orlando Toyota family also recommends that you check the crosswalk before pulling through to make sure no last-minute trick-or-treaters are running through! You should also pay attention to road signs – detours or other changes might be made to accommodate pedestrians or traffic on Halloween, and you’ll need to be aware of them.
