Spring cleaning is all in the details. Many people focus on major things like floors, carpets, and windows when they decide to take on a spring cleaning checklist. However, when giving your home a top to bottom clean, it’s sometimes hard to remember every nook and cranny. Our Orlando Automotive Family has put together a list of five things you probably forget to clean—with some extra helpful hints to make your life easier.
Take on spring cleaning with these five simple tasks!
When cleaning the refrigerator, it’s going to be easiest to take everything out! Put all of your food into some large coolers so that way your food doesn’t spoil. Removing everything will ensure that you’re not cleaning around everything and thoroughly cleaning every corner and compartment. Use a mixture of warm water and dish washing liquid to wipe the interior of your fridge. A helpful hint for this spring cleaning is to put a Lazy Susan in your fridge to avoid annoying shuffling of products and make everything more organized and accessible.
- Window screens
Many people remember to wipe the glass off their windows but forget to clean the window screens, too! The easiest way to go about this spring cleaning spot is to remove all of your home’s window screens at once. As you do this, label each metal frame with a piece of tape and marker to keep track of which room they belong to. Lay all of your window screens flat and run a handheld vacuum over the screen to gently loosen debris. Don’t forget to flip the screen and do the other side! Clean both sides with soapy water and a cloth and finish by rinsing them off with a hose.
- Ceiling fan
When dust collects on your ceiling fan, it can send dust mites scattering onto the bedding, floor, or furniture below. This can contribute to allergies and sinus infections! Many people put off cleaning their fans, especially if they are on extremely high ceilings; however, with this helpful hint you can get this spring cleaning step finished in minutes. Spread an old sheet onto the floor or any furniture under the fan to collect dust that may fall. All you’ll need for this is an old pillow case and a step ladder. Simply slide the blades one at a time into the pillow case and wipe. This will collect all the dust inside! You can easily shake out the dust and place the pillow case in the washer for next time.
It may seem old-fashioned, but rotating your mattresses every once in a while is a must if you want your bed to last for many years. Doing so will evenly disperse the wear so you don’t get the dreaded dip in your mattress. Additionally, deep cleaning your mattress is super important. They collect dead skin cells, sweat, and array of stains. Treat any stains with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish soap, and baking soda. To deodorize, sprinkle a light layer of baking soda over the surface and let it sit for a few hours to absorb any excess liquid from the stain removal process. Finish this spring cleaning step by vacuuming off the baking soda!
A dishwasher is regularly used to clean dinnerware, but how often do you actually clean your dishwasher? If the answer is never, you’re not alone! Let your dishwasher run with a mixture of detergent and vinegar, making sure there are no dishes inside. Don’t forget the filter! Unscrew it (it’s usually located at the bottom) and soak it in warm soapy water for ten minutes. Scrub away any remaining grime with a toothbrush and a baking soda paste.
Happy spring cleaning from our Orlando Automotive Family to yours!
We hope that you get all the nooks and crannies when you take on a top to bottom buffing, and remember to keep cleaning fun!
