Spring is right around the corner! And what better way to take in the world’s beauty than going on a road trip in your Toyota? Here at Toyota of Orlando and Toyota of Clermont, we got together and came up with a road trip safety inspection checklist. These are going to be the parts of your car that you’ll want to check before you head out of Orlando.
Road trip safety checklist
Not only is is smart, but it’s safe to examine your car before you head out on a long trip! What would be worse than having your car break down on while you’re on vacation time. So our Orlando service technicians put together a car safety checklist to make sure your road trip goes as smoothly as it does in your dreams.
A car that won’t start on a road trip is pretty useless. And not only is it useless, but it can make you hours, even days behind schedule. So open up the hood and look at your battery for any visible signs of excessive ware. If you see any bulging, leaking or rusting, this can be a sign that your battery will need to be replaced in the near future. Even if your car battery looks to be in good condition we recommend doing a voltage test on your car. Our Orlando service techs can check your cars battery when you bring your car in to get serviced.
- Windshield wipers
The weather is unpredictable. You don’t want to be halfway across the country and realize your wiper blades need to be replaced during a torrential storm. Check and make sure that your windshield wipers are getting water off your windshield and aren’t creating any sort of smudge that could impair your view of the road. These are both times that your wiper blades are at the end of their road and need to be replaced.
- Oil and coolant
Make sure that you are not in need for an oil change or that you get it done before you start your road trip. After that, pop the hood. We recommend topping off your windshield wiper fluid since your most likely going to be driving at a high speed for a long period of time. You’re sure to encounter bugs and you want to be prepared.
You’ll want to check your tires PSI and make sure that they are at the recommended level before you leave Orlando on your road trip. Also walk around your vehicle and examine each tire. Make sure that your tires don’t have any nails stuck in them, weak spots or bubbles. These could lead to you getting a flat tire. Also make sure that each of your tires have enough tread on them!
Brakes are one of the most important safety features on your vehicle. You don’t want to be driving down the highway and have traffic come to a stop and find out that your breaks don’t work. When you use your brakes see if there are any noises or smells that are out of the ordinary and that there responding quickly. These are both signs that they need to be replaced. Also make sure to check your brake pad is still in good condition.
