If you haven’t heard about it, it’s already too late for you to buy tickets. TEDxOrlando is a sold out event that will be going on this Saturday, June 24 at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center. Even if you can’t attend in person, there will be multiple livestreams throughout the event. But what is it even about? Well, let’s talk about TED for a bit first.
A brief look at TED
TED is a nonprofit organization that believes in using short and powerful talks to spread ideas. TED stands for technology, entertainment, and design, which were the three main topics that were covered when TED started in 1984. Now, TED conferences around the world cover almost all topics in more than 100 languages. The TEDxOrlando conference will have a theme of “Growth, Identity, Conflict” and will have a variety of performers and speakers from the Orlando area. Here are some of the most anticipated acts and speakers.

Kay Rawlins is the Co-founder of Orlando City and the President of Orlando City Foundation. Described as a fierce competitor, she is also known to be extremely passionate about the Orlando community. Some of the areas she is passionate about are the commitment to solving homelessness, and building up social enterprises through programs such as the Central Florida Foundation. Rawlins was also named the “2016 Businesswoman of the Year” by the Orlando Business Journal. Her session on “City Sports is City Pride” will take place during the “Growth” section of the event.
Dr. Albert Manero is the president of Limbitless Solutions, and holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida. Limbitless Solutions is a nonprofit organization that uses additive manufacturing though devices such as 3D printers to advance personalized bionics. The organization also believes that no family should have to pay for their child to receiver a prosthetic. The organization went viral when Alex Pring, one of the first recipients of a prosthetic, met Robert Downey Jr. In addition to his work with Limbitless Solutions, Manero also mentors students learning design skills in the Next Generation Bionics Laboratory. His session on “Why Doll Plastic isn’t Enough” will take place during the “Identity” section of the event.
